Karenni peace talks need to focus on two key points to avoid fighting

Myanmar troop movements and military construction activities are key issues that need to be addressed in order for the ceasefire process in Karenni State to progress, according to the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP).
The Myanmar government and the KNPP signed an initial state-level cease-fire agreement in March. A subsequent 14-point union-level deal was signed in Loikaw city on June 9. It did not include 6 additional points covering military affairs originally raised by the KNPP.

The Loyal Comrades in the movement

The loyal comrades are little known by the new generation of today for the roles they played in the national movement, and the challenges they faced until their last breaths.

The road they took wasn't as easy as expected, however no matter what happened to them, they willingly confronted obstacles to pave a smooth way for the next comers. They never did things for personal gain, only in the interest of their people. Alongside them, there are many more to be mentioned who laid down their lives for freedom of their people.

It has been over a half century since a better day for the national movement, and the movement they were involved in from the very beginning is still up in the air ─ further pooling into a vicious circle.

For Karenni children education is a lottery

It’s the start of the new school year and it looks like many Karenni children, on both sides of the border will be denied an education.
Schools in refugee camps have a chronic shortage of teachers and teachers working in displaced communities on the Burma side of the border worry about their security – landmines and attacks by the Burma Army.

DANGER WITH EVERY STEP: LANDMINES KILLING AND WOUNDING IN KARENNI AREA

A group of young people was cutting the grass in the compound of a Baptist Church on a Saturday evening in March, in Mountain Village, Mawchi Township, Karenni (Kayah) State.
Some used hoes and an edger but some youths used their hands to remove long grass. They were kidding each other and laughing. It was an idyllic scene.
The reverie halted abruptly, however, when an undetected landmine exploded in the midst of the young people, to everyone’s surprise and horror.  Soe Moe, a local villager, lost his right leg. He is 26 years old.
